03/10/2010 - Fort Myers, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Boston Red Sox have called a morning news conference at which time infielder Nomar Garciaparra is expected to announce his retirement.
According to Boston sports talk station WEEI, Garciaparra will sign a one-day minor league deal with the Sox, then will reportedly become a baseball analyst for ESPN.
A six-time All-Star, Garciaparra was the AL's Rookie of the Year in 1997 with Boston. He also won a pair of AL batting titles (1999, 2000) with the Red Sox before he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs at the 2004 trade deadline.
Following an injury-plagued 2005 with the Cubs, Garciaparra won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2006 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he batted .303 in 122 games with 20 home runs and 93 RBI.
He appeared in 65 games for the Oakland Athletics last season, hitting .281 with three home runs and 16 RBI.
Over the course of his 14-year career with Boston (1996-2004), the Cubs (2004-05), the Dodgers (2006-08) and A's (2009), Garciaparra hit .313 with 229 homers, 936 RBI and a .521 slugging percentage.

The Indianapolis Colts know that winning the Super Bowl last season put a huge target on their backs, and they expect opponents to go all-out to knock them from the top of the mountain.
They’ll get their first test from the New Orleans Saints this Thursday night. The defending champs had nothing but good things to say about the New Orleans defense this past week, praising their opponents’ pass rush and run-stopping abilities.
"They play very aggressively," head coach Tony Dungy told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "They play a lot of man-to-man coverage, and they come after you. They have good pass rushers, and they're going to try to pressure us, I'm sure."
